The Invisible Devil has a name…
DR. CUBA is the new pulp fiction / horror / crime series by Christopher Paris, a former comic book writer and aerospace consultant. The series invokes the German expressionist silent film era of the 1910s and 1920s, and continues a tradition of crime horror set by the film and literary universes of Dr. Mabuse, Fantômas, and Der Golem. Additional inspiration comes from the Doc Savage series of novels, as well as film noir movies of the 1940s. Occupying a shared universe with Dr. Mabuse and Fantômas, but not requiring any knowledge of those works, DR. CUBA is a treat for fans of old-style pulp horror and hardboiled crime fiction.
As of now, the series consists of three novels. The first will be on sale shortly, with DR. CUBA II to follow about two months after that. DR. CUBA III is still being written.
Dr. Cuba
It is 1945; Inspector Heiner Thumann has fled Germany and now works for Scotland Yard. He now finds himself flying to South America to investigate a series of elaborate gold heists that threaten to destabilize world markets. His only clue: whispers within the international criminal underground of a single name: “Dr. Cuba.” Meanwhile, a nameless man known only as The Homunculus sets New York City’s Chinatown on fire in his quest for a ship to take him on a path that will lead him, as well, to confront the mysterious Dr. Cuba.
The Three Heads of Dr. Cuba
Inspector Thumann takes a post at the new International Criminal Police Organization, or “Interpol,” to investigate three sets of murders in 1946 post-war Germany. As he fights his own demons and the memory of his lost wife, Hilda, Thumann must once again confront the villainous Dr. Cuba. But Germany proves a nightmare as Thumann encounters a rampaging Golem destroying the country in search of hidden Nazis, as well as a series of murders that leave the victims drained of their blood.
The Blasphemies of Dr. Cuba
It is now 1950, and signs of the re-emergence of the Dr. Cuba organization have begun to appear. Inspectors Thumann and Torres must find out of there is a connection between Dr. Cuba, the theft of atomic weapon secrets, the growing threat of Cold War, and the strange radioactive mass found on the ocean floor. Meanwhile, the odd Madame Blavatsky warns that mysticism may play a terrifying role in these bizarre developments.
